Our new playhouse

I bought this second hand playhouse from gumtree last summer for £30. Its small but it was a real bargain as it was structurally sound and really only needed a coat of paint. And that was pretty much all I managed last summer.
But in June it’s real transformation began. Initially i was planning your standard playhouse with a kitchen etc but as they already have a kitchen in the playroom its seemed silly to build a new one. The only toys Kealan is really interested in are tools.  Plus we were using the house to store the sand toys and our little tikes car so it made more  sense to turn it into a garage/tool shed.

I knew we would need a bench for playing on and having toyed the idea of buying the ikea toolbench for a long time I searched Pinterest and was particularly impressed by this one – Workbench

So hubbie and I got to work and constructed our own (slightly less professional) version to perfectly fit in the playhouse. I also repainted inside and out and replaced the carpet. Then the little garden that I’d made last summer was transformed into a sandbox.

And this week we attached pegboard to the bench and wall and I painted chalkboard paint on one panel. And so here it is, our small, but sweet kiddies tool shed.

As you can see this picture was taken after a day playing in the sand.

The bench houses Kealans melissa and Doug tool set, our spades, watering cans, buckets and rakes for the sand pit as well as a wagon and wheelbarrow.

Beside the window sits the ride on digger and some more pegboard holds the sand pit diggers, trucks and matching hard hat.

The little tikes lawn mower is also in there but I’ve now realised there’s no space left for the matching toy BBQ I’ve hidden away in for cupboard for them.   The chalkboard.

And lastly the car is parked in too.

So that’s it, another project completed and I’m very pleased with how it turned out. We’ll see in the morning how they like their completed tool shed.
